Join us for our joint NSSWNY/NFBS field trip to the Houghton and Furman preserves,

followed by our annual picnic at Sprague Brook Park at Noon. These trips will offer a day of natural beauty at Furman Fen and Houghton Bog, two NSSWNY preserves in southern Erie County. Showy lady’s slippers (Cypripedium reginae), grass pinks (Calopagon tuberosus), and purple pitcher plants (Sarracenia purpurea) will be among the many plants we will encounter.

Long-time member and professional entomologist Dr. Wayne Gall will be our guide.

We will be meeting at 8:30 AM in the main parking lot near the EV charger at Sprague Brook Park, 9674 Foote Road, Glenwood, 14069, in southern Erie County. Bring water shoes or boots; this is an easy, level hike.

Contact Wayne Gall at wkssgall.1976@gmail.com for in-formation and to sign up.

Annual Picnic at Sprague Brook Park: Saturday, June 27

Then, after hiking our preserves, you can put your feet up, fill your plate with food, and enjoy the company of your friends and fellow members of NFBS and NSSWNY at our NSSWNY annu-al picnic. The picnic will get underway at Sprague Brook Park, Shelter Number 4, at 12:00 noon.

Of course, folks can come for one or both of the preserve visits, or just plan on attending the picnic only. Plan to bring your own table service and a dish to pass. Sandwich makings will be provided as well as beverages. Don’t miss this fun and delicious tradition. Please sign up with Jackie Swift for the picnic by emailing jcourtneyswift@aol.com or calling 716-532-6022.
